Soundsmiths

Tom Smith, a friend who has just graduated from Kingston doing a degree in music technology has started up his own freelance company called Soundsmiths. He specialised in the recording, production and mastering of sound for advertising and music videos. We have discussed a few times that we could collaborate on work if there was any visual work that the client needed doing as well as sound design.

He has built up and impressive portfolio in a short space of time and this is a great contact to have.

Future Aspirations and Career Aims

ThePrintSpace - again

I received the print from the print space for my university exhibition, however a scratch was found on the image side of the print. Not happy, I phoned them up and the said that they would send me another one completely free of charge.

This place has been nothing but helpful so will definitely be using them again.

Crisis, What Crisis?

The outcome to this project required the model posing completely upside down, completely in frame and wearing a suit. As this was a shoot that couldn't happen in uni for safety reasons, it had to be done on location at a place where it was safe. This was my first shoot on location and it was a fantastic learning experience. The location had to be found and booked, the model had to be found and booked at the same time as the location. The lights, backdop and camera had to be sourced and travel had to be arranged. It opened my eyes to the amount of work that goes into making a shoot like this possible. Over all it was a stressful experience, but also a highly successful and enjoyable one.

I will keep in contact with James (the model) and Yam (the trapeze space owner). So that in the future if I need a similar model or space then they can hopefully help me out again.

James Barrett

James is the model I used for my project 'Crisis, What Crisis?'. He is a practicing trapeze artist, and a very good one. While I was photographing James at a trapeze space in North London, there was tow other trapeze artists warming down in the background and one of them asked me if I wanted to do some portraits of her.

I was talking to the space's owner after the shoot and she said that there is a lot of photographic work to be sort out in the circus scene. This could very possibly be a way of making some good money so I am going to try and build a list of contacts.

Some of James' work is below, hopefully I will get to work with him again soon.

Kyle Bean

Kyle is a recent Brighton graduate who is doing annoyingly well for himself. He work first caught my eye on the blog 'it's nice that', and it really appealed to me. I think that parallels can be drawn between his work and mine. Simple, visually arresting outcomes, but with quite a complex or meaningful concept behind them.

I can in some ways see myself creating work similar to this in the not too distant future. From what I understand he is working on his own, and has created work for a range of clients inc. Scientific America, Lloyds and Mens Health.
