Tara's talk was another incite into the commercial side of what we do as designers. Previously with Thomas Matthews and now under the title 'think/do', she has worked on a number of projects that have varied in budget, scale and ambition. Whilst looking through her work it was very impressive to see the umber of mediums that she had worked with.
Letter press
Digital
Motion
Installation
Events
etc

'play more'
Once created this was sent to many studios around the country to spread this message as well as the change in approach to her work.
V&A late - reflect. This work involved people writing messages and texts onto glass, focusing on the subjects of romance, destiny and consequence. Once the message was written on the transparent piece of acrylic. The light from behind the plastic would then project the message onto the opposite surface. In doing this everyone could read what was written and dialogues emerge between people who may have visited the installation hours apart.
Eat London - This was a project done for the London International Festival of Theatre.
This involved people being given a part of a map of london to make out of food, creating a huge, edible, map of london.
Sustainability has always been a huge part of tara's work and she makes a point of always making it a part of the project from the very beginning. If an element like sustainability is added half way into a piece of work then it isn't going to work, it has to be an integral part form the very beginning.
Thomas Matthews focused on this aspect of design as it was very important to them, sometimes turning away clients that didn't agree or didn't recognise their design philosophy. I liked the way that she had a valuable principle and the centre of everything she did and not matter what she stuck by it. She clearly had a great love for what she did and cared about all the work she creates. It has made me think about what my philosophy might and if there is an aspect about design in this modern age that I really care about.
Tara has also been involved with a number of charitable projects, namely make poverty history and the welcome trust.
